JOB SUMMARY:

New Mexico Tech is undergoing a complete redesign of its websites. The full-time contract web developer and web designer will serve as the main liaison for this approximately yearlong undertaking with both campus constituents and a third-party vendor hired to perform the redesign. The full-time contract web developer and web designer’s role spans everything from participating in the discovery process to helping train-the-trainers and everything in between.The full-time contract web developer and web designer also will consult with campus constituents to create, update, tweak, or overhaul existing websites; review existing software solutions; develop new functionality; and/or, if possible, write new code as needed for NMT’s current website. The current CMS is Omni/Modern Campus.And the full-time contract web developer and web designer will further collaborate with other technical staff and stakeholders/clients to ensure optimum functionality, performance, accessibility, scalability, and security of supported software of NMT’s current and redesigned/in-the-works websites. This position requires a combination of programming skills (PHP, HTML, CSS, JS, etc.) and aesthetics (understanding element arrangements on the screen, color and font choices, etc.) to reflect the entire web development process, including design, development, and deployment: largely front-end and some back-end knowledge.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, web design, web programming, or other relevant field. At least 4-5 years of experience programming, designing and/or producing websites. Web programming skills; experience in development, maintenance, and management of university websites; experience in designing, developing, testing, and configuring software systems and computer programs. Strong understanding of the opportunities and barriers of web technology, standards, and accessibility. Expertise in HTML, CSS, HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, Angular, PHP, ASP, Python, Shell, Django, etc. Proficiency in design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD) . Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Microsoft Office. Experience working with content management systems, e.g., Omni/Modern Campus, Drupal, WordPress, Cascade Server. Familiarity with web cloud hosting provider environments such as Acquia, Pantheon and others. Strong understanding of web usability and accessibility (WCAG, ARIA). Experience with web application User Experience (UX) design. Vast interpersonal skills. Communicate well verbally and in writing with a wide range of people, including senior executive and administrative leaders, deans, faculty, students, supervisors, colleagues, other employees, and vendors.
